Artist Statement

My investigation revolved around the questions, how does clothing tell a story, and what story does that particular article of cloth tell? My investigation is composed of painted images of varying fabrics and clothes that tell a story, whether that be a personal, historical, or cultural one. I practiced a lot on my depiction of clothing using oil paints on canvas, but I also experimented by painting on wood that was cut into the shape of the jersey I was painting, as well as embroidering an image of my parents wedding clothes onto a piece of fabric. My Unidentified Soldier work was definitely a catalyst for my love of painting fabrics. My YMCA polo taught me a lot about depth of folds and using a vibrant color for fabrics.
